He looks to the left

See the child standing there
His face a mask of despair
He looks to the left
He looks to the right
He looks inside himself
Nowhere does he fit
He belongs nowhere
His insides different than his outsides

Now the young man grown
His face is neutral
It shows nothing
But inside he says
Now I am free
Free to be what I am
So he becomes she
She finds love in another like her

Now the government steps in
It says that business may refuse them
Serve them not
They are legislated as not right
Not equal in the eyes of many

Then the police are called
They find the body
It’s hanging there
His/Her face a mask of pain

And they say to themselves
Why, he is so young
Who is to blame
Why did God let this happen
Ponder this
Many of One
